About

The Friends of Bayliss Public Library is an organization interested in the growth and development of Bayliss Public Library. Its purpose is to maintain an association of people interested in books, information and libraries by:

• Working to enhance library funds for meeting special library needs
  
  
• Promoting knowledge of and participation in library programs
  
  
• Supporting and cooperating with the library in developing library services and facilities for the community

Annual fundraising events include a Sweets Sale at Valentine’s Day, a Gently Used Book Sale in early August, and a Silent Auction now held in mid-October. We’ve also held special fundraisers, like a puppet sale to benefit the Children’s Room, and an on-going tote bag sale. The donations over the years have helped purchase large print books, videos for the visually impaired, lobby furniture, silk plants and trees, out-of-town newspaper subscriptions, audio books and display racks, new reference books, a public access computer and workstation, an information kiosk, and refreshments for guest speaker events.

Newsletter
The Friends of the Library publishes a periodic newsletter. Members receive their copies by mail, and the newsletter is also available at the Circulation Desk.

History
In the early 1990s, this Friends group was reorganized to meet the changing needs of our library and our community. Our current Constitution states that we exist to “increase public awareness of the library’s resources, needs, and goals.” Our By-laws allow for a Board of Directors elected annually and require four meetings per year. Informal, we see our purpose as providing monetary support to enhance and increase library resources, thereby increasing public awareness and support of our library.

Our Friends group averages about 150 members each year. Annual dues are only $10.00, and our membership year runs from October to September. Our annual membership drive is held during early or mid-October. The annual dues also include four issues of our quarterly newsletter. Our members offer support to Bayliss Public Library through their dues donations and their volunteer work at our fundraising events.
